Your Visit to Lake Placid in the Adirondacks

Mountain Weather

The Village of Lake Placid is situated about 2000 feet above sea level nestled among the hi-peaks of the Adirondack Mountains which offer very scenic views and four distinct seasons. However some locals would claim that July and August, are just a couple of months of bad sledding. Early spring through the late fall can offer some beautiful sunny warm days but due to our elevation and proximity to the hi-peaks the weather can and often does produce extreme fluctuations in temperatures often occurring in the course of one day. Sunny summer days can change to cool nights or even frost or snow late in the fall. Our suggestion is that for your comfort and safety bring some warm clothing, sweater & slacks, warm hiking boots maybe some rain gear just in case mother natures decides to have a little fun with us. Please keep in mind that any of your travel and vacations plans to the Adirondacks based on what the weatherman predicts for this area is at best a coin toss. Too often the 90% chance of rain never happens and the 10% chance of rain can rain cats and dogs. Remember that our sometimes, dramatic weather changes here in the Adirondacks is the “Magic” that makes it such a wonderful place to visit. Come prepared and enjoy.

Visiting Lake Placid

When traveling to Lake Placid and in the Adirondacks it is always a good idea to call ahead for reservations and check out our events page to see what is going on here in the area. The Village of Lake Placid may appear to be quiet in the morning but by late afternoon to early evening local accommodations can quickly fill to capacity especially during holidays, special events and Leaf Peeper season.

We are more than happy to help the weary traveler fine a room if you just “drop in”, however searching for accommodations in unfamiliar surroundings especially at night after driving all day is not fun. Call and plan ahead.
